A little bit of maintenance will go a long way in keeping your home trouble free, energy efficient and safe. Here are a few tips to consider throughout the year.
Winter
- Clean dryer vent
- Replace air filters
- Check caulking around windows and doors
- Change batteries in smoke detectors / carbon monoxide detectors
- Disconnect and drain garden hoses
Spring
- Change batteries in smoke detectors / carbon monoxide detectors
- Replace air filters
- Clean and check gutters
- Check roof for loose, damaged, or missing shingles
- Re-seed yard or bare spots in your yard (weed, feed, fertilize, lime & water during dry conditions)
- Re-mulch shrub beds
- Check foundation for proper drainage. Add fill dirt if needed to keep water draining away from the foundation
- Have A/C condensation drains check and cleared if needed
Summer
- Replace air filters
- Change batteries in smoke detectors / carbon monoxide detectors
- Re-paint and re-caulk exterior wood surfaces every 3-5 years (this will help wood products last their longest and beautify your investment)Maintain moisture level around the foundation of your home with soaker hoses to avoid costly foundation repairs.
Fall
- Replace air filters
- Re-seed yard or bare spots in your yard
- Clean and check gutters
- Check fireplace chimney for obstructions
- Change batteries in smoke detectors / carbon monoxide detectors
